Om, Chakras and mudras and bandhas oh my.
Om is a mantra with sound “OM”, you often chant it when you meditate. In yogic philosophy it is believed to be the sound of the universe and encompasses all other sounds within it. Learn more in this great yoga journal article.
There’s a whole load of other yoga to read about here In the Om section of my blog. As well as the physical yoga poses you are used to doing in a typical yoga class which may be Hatha yoga. There are other branches of yoga you may have never heard about.
The six branches of yoga.
Each branch represents a different focus
- Hatha yoga: Is the physical and mental branch. It aims to prime your body and mind.
- Raja yoga: This branch is about meditation and strict adherence steps called the eight limbs of yoga.
- Karma yoga: This is a path of service annd it aims to create a future free from negativity and selfishness.
- Bhakti yoga: Is the path of devotion. It is a positive way for you to channel your emotions and cultivate acceptance.
- Jnana yoga: This branch of yoga is about wisdom, being a scholar, and developing your intellect through studying.
- Tantra yoga: This is the pathway of ritual, and ceremony.
